Sabrina Rani Furminger
Journalist, Host, Guest Instructor
Sabrina Rani Furminger is a film industry journalist, podcaster, and content creator based in Vancouver. She began her working life as a publicist in the non-profit entertainment realm before moving into film and television journalism. She hosts the YVR Screen Scene Podcast and has written about the film industry for the Westender Newspaper, the Vancouver Courier Newspaper, and currently MONTECRISTO Magazine. Sabrina is an in-demand event moderator (Vancouver Just For Laughs Film Festival; Pacific Screenwriting Program; Women in Film and Television Vancouver; Vancouver International Film Festival) and film festival juror (VIFF, Crazy8s, Run N’ Gun). She won a Women in Film & Television Vancouver Spotlight Award in 2016, and Ma Murray Journalism Awards in 2017 and 2018. Sabrina hosts an occasional feminist film series at VIFF Vancity Theatre called Her Stories: Women Call the Shots. In November 2019, she hosted the UBCP/ACTRA Awards Red Carpet – and in November 2020, she hosted and produced the first UBCP/ACTRA Awards Virtual Red Carpet. Sabrina was the only Canadian semi-finalist in iHeartRadio’s international #TheNextGreatPodcast competition for a podcast entitled Cringe, and is currently in production on a documentary web series about the various efforts to dismantle white supremacy in the Vancouver film and television industry (the web series is funded in part by Human Rights Internet). She co-owns Fish Flight Entertainment, a boutique animation and visual effects studio in Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighborhood.
