Olivia Etey's Bio
Olivia’s passion for theatre began on her parents’ staircase where she and her sister put on plays until Olivia literally outgrew the stairs (nearly knocked a painting off the wall)!
Now, Olivia is a Vancouver Playwright, Stage-Manager, Producer and recent UBC graduate with a double major in Creative Writing and English Honours. In Elementary School and high school Olivia was awarded honorary ribbons for her public speaking at the District level.
Olivia produced Julian Figueroa’s short film No Need for Shelter in 2017, which won an Award of Distinction in the Canada Shorts Film Festival. Olivia knew she would dedicate her life to theatre the moment UBC’s Player’s Club produced her first play in 2015 at their annual Dionsyia Festival.
As a playwright Olivia is very thankful to have a unique license to talk to outstanding members in her community, and there is no where she won’t go to hear about a person’s life story—whether it’s an old folk’s home, remote mountain chalet or a cozy backyard in Surrey that miraculously attracts blue herons and houses a Guinness-World-Record long living cat.
Her produced works include Foreplay (2015), The Midnight Serenade (2015), Living on the Grid (2016) which debuted at Vancouver’s FRINGE Festival as part of The Only Animal’s Generation Hot Series and The Hoarder (2017).
Her recent stage-managing credits include The Brave New Play Rites Festival (2018) and Little Mountain Lion Productions’ Mr. Burns: A Post Electric Play (2018).
Olivia loves sharing the value of theatre with the world, thus she is starting a Non-Profit Organization that puts on a play for families once a year on Lasqueti Island, to connect the on and off-grid communities.
She is honoured and ecstatic to join the spectacular team here at The Drama Class and she can’t wait to see the students tap into their own unique voice and discover something about themselves that they never knew before in the uninhibited creative state! Here’s to imagination and the act of creation! Olivia lives in Vancouver with her boyfriend Jojo.
